Zesty BBQ Topper

This BBQ sauce is next level Yum and perfect with some Cowboy Candy and Tahini Slaw. The Cowboy Candy recipe is below; find the Tahini Slaw in Recipes under Sides!

Ingredients

For the BBQ Sauce:

  • 1 c Ketchup
  • 1/3 c Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 2 T Water
  • 3 T  Soy Sauce
  • 1.5 T Yellow Mustard
  • 1.5 T Garlic Powder
  • 2 tsp Onion Powder
  • 2 tsp Smoked Paprika

For the Cowboy Candy:

  • 8 Med to Large Jalapenos, trimmed and thinly sliced on the bias
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • ½ cup Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 2-3 tsp yellow mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp Kosher Salt

Directions

For the BBQ Sauce:

  1. Put everything into a sauce pan and bring it to a slow boil, stirring often, until it reduces and thickens a bit.

For the Cowboy Candy:

  1. Into a saucepan that can accommodate the sliced jalapenos, put sugar, vinegar mustard seeds and kosher salt and bring to a boil, let sugar dissolve and stir constantly for 5 minutes on med low.
  2. Add the jalapenos and bring to a boil, turning frequently until they shrivel a bot, about 6 minutes.
    Put the jalapenos into a glass dish and continue boiling the liquid about 10 minutes until it’s reduced.  
  3. Pour over the jalapenos and serve.
  4. You can also transfer to a covered jar and put into the fridge.
