When Chef Sara Jenkins received an email from a marine stationed in Afghanistan, saying that he was dreaming of one of her famous Porchetta sandwiches, she became determined to make this marine's dream come true. Despite a nightmare of logistics and with the help of DeBragga from whom she gets her naturally raised pork, and Niman Ranch who raises it, 300 sandwiches were delivered last week to Camp Bastion in Afghanistan to a very happy group of marines.

 

Below is the marine's letter thanking her.

 

Ms. Jenkins, I just want to take the time to thank you personally for the amazing meal that was provided for us a few nights ago. It was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had and made my day! We don’t get the best food out here, and the food that we got that night has been the best meal I’ve had in my 300+ days of being here. Once again thank you, thank you, thank you!!
