"iPhone App" Apr 11, 2011
New York, NY –April 2011– DeBragga, New York's Butcher, introduces a new iPhone App to guide users to restaurants and markets offering dry aged beef from DeBragga, as well as an array of naturally raised meats and poultry products. The DeBragga iPhone app is available as a free download from the Apple Store/ITunes as of April 13, 2011. With listings and maps to guide users to over 175 restaurants and markets in the New York area and beyond, and facts about dry aged beef and naturally raised meats, this iPhone app is designed to promote the consumption of authentic, responsibly raised meats and the food service operators who use them.
The DeBragga iPhone app presents users with the option of locating markets and restaurants in specific regions like Manhattan, Brooklyn, Long Island or New Jersey, or "nearby," using the GPS available on the phone. Options appear to the user, and when a selection is made, the user can instantly make a restaurant reservation online or by phone.
This new device not only promotes dining out, it puts a spotlight on the restaurants and markets that are buying and offering their customers naturally raised meats. According to the FAQ on the DeBragga iPhone App, "Animals that are "naturally raised" are never given hormones to stimulate growth. They are never administered antibiotics, and are never fed any animal based protein supplements of any kind. EVER. This is referred to in our industry as a "Never Ever Program". DeBragga also focuses on sourcing humanely raised animals as part of its naturally raised program. Therefore, these naturally raised animals are better for our health, better for the animals and better for our planet because of less crowding and good effluence management. Humanely, naturally raised animals taste better, too.
The DeBragga iPhone app will also help users understand what true dry aged beef is and learn to identify it in the marketplace. The FAQ points out that DeBragga believes the optimal time to dry age beef is 28 days, and continues, "While aging, the moisture in the meat escapes. This evaporation shrinks the beef, concentrating its flavor as it tenderizes the meat. Literally, the meat proteins and fats go through a transformation, and the result is superb beef with an extraordinarily rich flavor and buttery texture." True dry aged beef has a distinctive taste; the app users will learn to distinguish true dry aged beef from the wet-aged, or under-aged beef sold by some restaurants and markets.
It is the hope of DeBragga's owners, Marc Sarrazin and George Faison, that their iPhone app will serve as a boon to the industry AND to farmers who are producing meats and poultry in a way that does not harm the animal or the environment, and that produces meats that are good for us to consume. For example, today, 65% of all antibiotics manufactured in the U.S. go into the animals we eat (commodity), causing illness and impaired development, and impacting the ability of these medicines to help humans fight infection and disease. Animals sold as naturally raised have never been treated with antibiotics.
DeBragga, New York's Butcher, is the first to bring an iPhone app promoting restaurants, markets and producers, to market (existing related apps feature cuts of beef and cooking instruction). DeBragga has been supplying the finest chefs with a range of top quality meats and poultry for almost a century, and now makes those same meats available through its online store, DeBragga.com. All meats are shipped fresh overnight (except burger which must be shipped frozen).
